Getting into the press is a combination of media savviness and timing. Do you have what it takes to get the press interested in your story?

How is your track record when it comes to getting journalists interested in your company’s story? Does your comms team know how to earn media coverage and get you the visibility and credibility you need to be a global player? We’ve created a PR guide that teaches you to build international credibility with the right media and get positioned as thought-leaders worth listening to.

Let us help you build, run and maintain PR campaigns that lead to long-term visibility and industry credibility. This step-by-step guide will help your team do the right research, create media lists that get results and pitch stories that people want to hear more about.

Opportunities to connect with journalists give your company the chance to tell its story and gain the visibility needed to connect with the world. We wanted to give someone a chance to do just that, so running up to Slush 2021, we collected your pitches for The Perfect Media Pitch Competition. The best ones were given the opportunity to be shared with the world and were put in front of a panel of top journalists from a group of international publications. Congratulations to our winner, Nomitri, who got an interview with Jari Tanner from The Associated Press! Jari says that he always asks himself the following when considering a pitch,

“Is this something that people would like to read, and why would anyone care?”

Nomitri won because their pitch had a compelling and human story in addition to clarity and professionalism. Journalists appreciate those qualities because they lead to stories that serve their readers.

Don’t forget these things in your pitch

While doing the Get Known podcast, I regularly hear the same thing from journalists when I sit down with them. They get terrible pitches all the time. The kind that makes them laugh out loud and then completely forget what was being pitched or who was pitching. To avoid these most common mistakes:

  1. Focus on the purpose and impact of your product or service – not the product or service itself.
  2. Remember to have a human angle or story that connects with people.
  3. Be relevant to the beat of the journalist or the moment. Do your homework before getting in touch with the journalist.

In the end, bad pitches end up wasting journalists’ time and ruin your opportunity for growing a relationship with those journalists. So remember to look at your pitch with these things in mind before you submit.
